The traffic looked heavy in the area so we decided to take local transit to downtown. Our first stop was the memorial and the museum for the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing. The museum and display were impressive. Outside there are chairs where the building once stood representing the people who died. Inside the museum they told the story of before, during and after. You really left with a sense of what it was like.
Next, we walked around in the business district. There were some tall buildings but there were very few people. We were really confused. We thought perhaps there was a concourse level of shopping but when we went in a building to check it out, there were eating places on the main floor but nothing that looked like a concourse. We decided to stop one man and ask if there was a holiday, and he said no and that it was a little more empty than usual, but we have a feeling it is normally like this. We just didn’t understand where all the people working on those buildings were.
We walked to Bricktown and grabbed a late lunch there. We walked back downtown and caught the bus home by 4pm.
On Sunday, Joerg visited the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum while Julie visited the Science Museum (where they had a special origami display). We both enjoyed our respective museums.
On Monday we left by 9:30am after filling up with gas and arrived in Amarillo Texas around 1:30pm. We are staying in Amarillo for one week. Tell y’all about it next week.
