We took two days to get to Winnipeg with a stop at a truck stop in Moosomin just before the Manitoba Border.  The weather forecast was giving tornado warnings, but we could see that the storm was ahead of us and moving the other direction.  We enjoyed dinner at the Red Barn and then settled in with a little Skip-bo cards and then bed.  Saska kept watch out the window through the night to be sure we were safe.  We were up and on the road by 6:30am and it was wonderful.  The roads were empty and it was smooth driving all the way to Winnipeg.

We stayed 4 nights in Winnipeg which is brief by our standards, but it was delightful.  We arrived on Friday afternoon and were advised that the storm from the previous day had knocked down the tower that housed the internet. Uh oh, what would we do? We would have to do things like read, ride bikes and visit the city (where of course we could find internet).

Saturday morning, we got up early and headed downtown.  We parked just outside the Human Rights museum and then wandered for 3 hours through the Forks, across the river to the French Quarter, Portage and Main, and the parliament building. We then met up with Ivor and Alvin at the High Tea Bakery.  They are leaders in the Canadian Company of Pilgrims and I had worked with both over the phone and email, so it was finally good to put faces to names. Of course, Joerg was in his glory because as it happens,  a classic motorbike rally was gathering right outside the bakery at the same time.

Sunday, we relaxed, read, rode the bike, went for a run and just enjoyed the day.  Internet was restored by Sunday evening, so we felt connected again.

Monday, I went downtown in the morning to visit the Human Rights museum and I was awestruck. The architecture of the building alone was worth the admission.  The displays and exhibits were so well done that I stopped at almost every one of them to read and let it soak in.  They have a special summer only display of the life of Nelson Mandela so that was great to see. I still can’t believe that we, as human beings, are still fighting for basic human rights to this day. I cannot comprehend it.

Monday evening, I did a little work and Joerg went down to enjoy the city one last time, with camera and tripod in hand, waiting for the sunset.

Tomorrow we are off to Ontario.  We will be taking our time along the way with no more than 4 hours of driving a day, which in fact is more than we need.  We have a few stops planned along the way, but we are going to let our senses guide us.  We will stop and stay when we feel like it.
